ONE PERSON SURVIVES AIR INDIA CRASH
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh is a name synonymous with luck. Incredible luck.
That’s because Ramesh is the only survivor from the recent Air India crash, which caused the deaths of 241 passengers and other people on the ground.
Miraculously, the 40-year-old British citizen seated in seat 11A of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed into a medical hostel seconds after it took off from an airport in Ahmedabad, India, managed to climb out of the wreckage and survive.
Experts in air crash investigation have said that Ramesh’s life might have been spared because his seat was located by an emergency exit near the front of the plane. The seat is located close to one of the strongest parts of the fuselage, known as the wing box.
The wing box is known as an extra structure of the wing to protect it from the compression of the fuselage.
“I managed to unbuckle myself, used my leg to push through an opening, and crawled out,” Ramesh told rescue workers shortly after they found him.
Footage has since been released of Ramesh walking away from the wreckage with smoke and fire seen behind him. The video was recorded by a bystander on his phone.
