MAN DIES AFTER JUMPING OFF CAPE TOWN’S HOTEL SKY ROOF
A man has died after he allegedly jumped from the rooftop of Cape Town’s Hotel Sky on Monday.
The hotel’s management confirmed the incident, and Lower Long Street in front of the hotel in the city’s CBD was cordoned off.
According to Inge Dykman, the hotel’s sales and marketing manager, the man walked into the hotel from the street and went up to the 28th floor, which is the rooftop. He allegedly bought a ticket for the Sky-HI ride.
He then jumped to his death, even though there were several security and safety measures in place.
When traffic police and the South African Police Service (SAPS) arrived on the scene, they covered the man’s body with an emergency blanket while waiting for forensics to inspect the scene.
Captain Frederick van Wyk, provincial police spokesperson, said the deceased’s body was found just before 16:00.
“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine race, age and cause of death. An inquest was registered for investigation. Crime scene experts and Cape Town Central SAPS detectives are currently on the scene at the mentioned address, combing the area for clues.”
