TETE DIJANA WINS COMRADES

South Africa’s Comrades King is Tete Dijana.

The 37-year-old Dijana managed to win the 2025 Comrades Marathon for the third time after a nail-biting finish on Sunday.

Dijana, who hails from Mahikeng, finished the race in an unconfirmed time of 5 hours, 25 minutes and 22 seconds.

This year’s race was the downhill version with the runners facing the gruelling 89.98 kilometres from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

In second place was Piet Wiersma from the Netherlands. With only 11 seconds between the two men, he was a close second throughout the race, but unfortunately left it too late to charge Dijana towards the end and couldn’t make up for the lost time.

Russia’s Nikolai Volkov came in third place.

The women’s race was won by South African Gerda Steyn. The 35-year-old managed to win in 5 hours, 51 minutes and 19 seconds.

In 2023, Steyn set her own record with a time less than 6 minutes and 25 seconds than this year’s time.

Steyn was this year’s defending champion with Russia’s Alexandra Morozova in second place.

Kenya’s Shelmith Muruiki came in third place as she made history. Muruiki became the first black woman in the history of the sport to make the podium.

Irvette van Zyl, the South African Olympic athlete, competed in the Comrades for the first time ever and managed to get fourth place.
