DAVID BECKHAM KNIGHTED
From now on, football legend David Beckham will be known as Sir David Beckham. This comes after the former England captain received his knighthood in the King’s Birthday Honours.
The 50-year-old was knighted by King Charles at Buckingham Palace on Saturday alongside other recipients like The Who singer Roger Daltrey.
Beckham played 115 times for England and international clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid.
In 2003, he was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.
“Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour,” Beckham said after the ceremony.
With Beckham receiving the country’s highest honours, his wife, former Spice Girls member and fashion designer Victoria, will now be known as Lady Beckham.
Victoria has also received the Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II for her work in the British fashion industry.
Victoria took to social media to share her delight in her husband receiving a knighthood.
“You’ve always been my knight in shining armour, but now it’s official. Sir @davicbeckahm!!! What an honour, I couldn’t be prouder of you.”
