MISSING COMRADES RUNNER FOUND
Moira Harding has been found. The Kommetjie-based runner finished the Comrades Marathon on Sunday just before 17:00 but disappeared soon after.
Early Sunday evening, a missing person alert and search were activated after it was confirmed that she had finished the race, but she couldn’t be traced afterwards
On Monday morning, the Comrades Marathon Association released a statement confirming that Harding has been found.
“Moira Harding has been found and is alive.
According to ALS Paramedics Medical Services, she was found near the NSRI base on Point Road in Durban Central.
The state she was found in was described as “critical”.
The ALS Paramedics Medical Services team stabilised her before they transported her to a hospital with the Netcare 911 Aeromedical Helicopter.
Provincial police said they are actively investigating the circumstances around her disappearance after she finished the race.
“The woman is currently in hospital, and although she was found with no visible injuries, police will await a medical report, which will determine the next course of action.”
Once news broke of Harding’s disappearance, several runners took to social media to share their opinions on what was referred to as chaos at the finish line.
One user said: “Completely chaotic scenes once again at the end. Runners unable to meet up with supporters, huge bottlenecks, zero crowd control, and zero traffic management. The medical tent an absolute mess.”
No statement has been released by Harding as yet.
