ADIDAS TEAMS UP WITH PHARRELL WILLIAMS FOR NEW XHOSA SHOE
Since 2014, Pharrell Williams has launched several items including tracksuits, sweatshirts and hoodies through his collaboration with Adidas.
Over the last few months, the Pharrell Williams x Adidas collection of shoes showed a particular interest in languages across the world. The shoes include the phrase 'human race' and have used different languages to depict the phrase on the shoes.
The latest language to feature on the new shoe to be launched on Friday is Xhosa. The word 'Uluntu' is stitched into the top of the shoe. It means 'human race' and 'humanity'.
It’s available in various colours but, even though it features a local indigenous language, it won't be available to buy in South Africa.
Business Insider reports that, although the sneaker will be sold via Adidas’ online store, mobile app, and at selected retailers around the world, it won't be available through the South African platforms.
A rep from Adidas South Africa's head office told Business Insider that "we're not having a drop… this one is releasing on 14 May, but we're not getting this one".
