ANAESTHETIST ACCUSED OF CULPABLE HOMICIDE GUNNED DOWN IN JOHANNESBURG

A prominent anaesthetist, Abdulhay Munshi, was gunned down in Orange Grove on Wednesday.

News24 reports that a witness said a car without number plates bumped in Abdulhay Munshi's car. When the anaesthetist got out of his car, he was shot in the chest. He died on the scene.

Munshi and paediatric surgeon, Peter Beale, are both accused of culpable homicide following the death of a 10-year-old patient in 2019.

Zayyaan Sayed passed away only hours after he was operated on by Beale and Munshi at Netcare’s Park Lane Clinic in Johannesburg. A court case regarding the matter has started already, but it was still in the early stages.

Both Beale and Munshi weren't allowed to operate at Netcare clinics as they were suspended.

Family, friends and the healthcare fraternity gathered outside Munshi's home in Houghton on Thursday to pay their final respects to the doctor following his murder, EWN reports.

Goolam Hoosen, Munshi's cousin and family spokesperson, told EWN that they were devastated.

"We just can't believe that this has happened to Abdulhay, our beloved cousin. This kind of tragic incident is not something that anyone can anticipate and this is a big concern for us."

Several doctors gathered outside the slain doctor's house yesterday to pay their respects and create awareness around the safety of healthcare workers.
