BILL AND MELINDA GATES ANNOUNCE DIVORCE
After a marriage of 27 years, billionaire couple Bill and Melinda Gates have announced that they are getting divorced.
The news was announced by the couple through duplicate statements on their personal social media accounts.
"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage."
They got married in 1994, and have three children together who are now in their late teens and early twenties.
The couple established The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation several years ago and have invested a lot of their time and money into charitable projects around the world, especially in Africa. Most recently, the foundation invested more than $1 billion in efforts to fight the Coronavirus.
They have confirmed that the foundation will continue its work with both of them still being involved.
"We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation."
In 2020, Bill announced that he had stepped down from the Microsoft board, the company which he co-founded, to concentrate on their foundation and fulfil his role as philanthropist full time.
