BRITISH NURSE FOUND GUILTY OF MURDERING SEVEN NEWBORNS
A 33-year-old British nurse has been found guilty of murdering seven newborn babies and attempting to kill six others.
Lucy Letby has since become the UK’s most prolific child killer.
She was on trial since October 2022 after a long investigation by local police while she was working at the Countess of Chester Hospital from June 2015 to June 2016. Although the jury decided on a guilty verdict on 8 August already, the final decision could not be made public until Friday 18 August because of a court order.
Letby was arrested twice and released after both occasions. In 2020 she was arrested for a third and final time and she was formally charged.
Some of the jury members were crying when they were discharged. Letby was not in court to hear the jurors’ final decision.
While working at the hospital’s neonatal unit, she injected her sick or premature victims with air, while overfeeding others with milk or poisoning them by injecting them with insulin.
She will be sentenced today, but has notified her lawyers that she will not be in court.
News24 reports that during searches at her home, police found hospital paperwork and a handwritten note on which Letby had written: “I am evil, I did this.”
