MAN KILLED BY HIPPO IN KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

While camping in the Kruger National Park, Kobus de Wet was killed by a hippo on Saturday.

De Wet was a senior manager at the Environmental Crime Investigations at Groenkloof in Pretoria.

Isaac Phaahla, a spokesperson for the South African National Parks (SANParks) said a probe into the man’s death is currently underway.

“Details are sketchy at this stage and circumstances around the incident are under investigation.”

De Wet was on holiday in the Kruger National Park and at the time of his death he was an employee at SANParks for more than a decade.

“He was responsible for many arrests and convictions of poachers”, said Phaahla.

News24 reports that SANParks management extended condolences to De Wet’s immediate family, friends and his SANParks family. The memorial and funeral arrangements were underway.
