BUSH SHOCKED BY PEOPLE’S REACTION TO HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH MICHELLE OBAMA
Former US President, George W Bush, has shared his shock at people’s reaction to his friendship with former First Lady, Michelle Obama.
The Republican and the Democrat have had a special friendship since the Obama's moved into the White House, after the Bush family moved out.
Two big moments that have stood out over the years were the time when the two embraced at the opening of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, as well as their interaction at Senator John McCain’s funeral in 2018, when Bush gave Obama a cough lozenge to soothe her throat.
In an interview with Bush and his wife Laura, broadcasted on Sunday, Bush told the CBS Sunday Morning host that "the American people were so surprised that Michelle Obama and I could be friends. American's are so polarised in their thinking that they can't imagine a George W. Bush and a Michelle Obama being friends".
While the friendship between the former administrations is something both families lovingly refer to, the Obama's have made it quite clear that there is no sense of friendship between them and the Trump family.
