COMRADES WINNER NICK BESTER ATTACKED AND LEFT FOR DEAD
The former Comrades winner and triathlon athlete, Nick Bester, is in ICU after being attacked on Sunday.
The 60-year-old elite athlete was attacked in the Magaliesberg Mountains near his home in Pretoria while he was training for an upcoming event.
News24 reports that a source close to Bester said that he "was beaten with rocks, dragged up a hill and beaten again with rocks and tied up and left for dead."
He managed to slide down the mountain until he reached the fence of a home where he was able to get the attention of the people living there.
Bester was training for a fundraising initiative with the aim of raising money in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
His son, Shaun Nick Bester, posted on Instagram that the attackers hit him so hard that they broke three of his ribs, his cheekbone and he has a lot of trauma and cuts all over his body. The post went on to say that they took off his clothes, tied him up and left him there.
Nick won the Comrades marathon in 1991. He is currently in the Eugene Marais hospital in Pretoria.
