CONOR MCGREGOR NAMED WORLD’S RICHEST ATHLETE
The Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor has been named number one on Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s top-earning athletes.
The list is compiled annually and is based on the 12 months preceding the publication.
CNN reports that despite the pandemic forcing athletes to take a hiatus for the most of 2020, McGregor still managed to earn $180 million. The majority of his earnings came from the $150 million sale of his majority stake in whiskey brand Proper No. Twelve.
This year marks the 32-year-old’s first appearance at the top of the list.
Football star Lionel Messi came in second with a total earning of $130 million.
Here’s a list of the world’s top-earning athletes over the past 12 months, according to Forbes magazine:
- Conor McGregor - $180 million
- Lionel Messi - $130 million
- Cristiano Ronaldo - $120 million
- Dak Prescott - $107.5 million
- LeBron James - $96.5 million
