COOLING STATIONS SET UP IN THE US

With one of the worst heatwaves to hit the United States in decades, people are forced to take shelter at cooling stations. According to reports the climate crisis in the American West has led to various droughts and extreme heatwaves.

These cooling stations have been set up across the states on the western coast of the United States where the heatwave’s effect has been far-reaching. Those without aircon or other means of keeping the hot air outside have been making use of public cooling stations to rest or sleep.

Several older people and those with babies have made use of these cooling stations.

CNN spoke to Dennis Henry, a 71-year-old with a heart condition that makes breathing more difficult. Henry made use of the local cooling station at the Oregon Convention Centre.

“Yesterday I thought I could make it through the day and the night, but I looked at projections for today and the day after, and I decided I better get my tail down here and make sure I get a spot.”

North America isn’t the only continent to have experienced record high temperatures this summer. Italy recently recorded its hottest day ever with temperatures close to 50 degrees Celsius.
