CREW MEMBER DIES AFTER ALEC BALDWIN FIRES PROP FIREARM
Alec Baldwin discharged a prop firearm on the set of a movie leading to the death of a crew member and the director of photography being injured.
The incident happened on Thursday in New Mexico where Baldwin is shooting the new Western movie ‘Rust’.
In a statement, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said the director of photography, 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins was transported to the hospital via helicopter and pronounced dead by medical personnel at the University of New Mexico Hospital.
CNN reports that the director, 48-year-old Joul Souza was transported to Christus St. Vincent’s Regional Medical Center by ambulance for care. Details on his condition were not released.
It seems as if the scene that was in the process of being filmed was meant to be a prop firearm when it was discharged. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office added that detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.
The actor went to the county sheriff’s office for a statement and photos showing him visibly distraught have been circulating.
It’s not clear at what stage the investigation is so far.
