DOG AND SECURITY GUARD RESCUED FROM EAST RAND DAM

In a massive operation that involved rescue teams, the SPCA and the local community, a dog as well as the security guard who went to help him, had been rescued.

On Friday morning the dog was spotted at Witfield Dam in Boksburg. He was stuck between water hyacinth and the incident was reported by someone on a residents’ social media group.

The SPCA was contacted immediately and made their way to the dam.

Upon arrival, they found that a security guard managed to save the dog’s life by was holding him above water so that the dog didn’t freeze.

Both the security guard and the dog were rescued by the emergency team after being in the water for an hour. The security guard was treated for hypothermia.

Friday morning’s weather was unusually cold for this time of the year following heavy rains across the province.

The rescue teams struggled to get through the hyacinth to rescue both the guard and the dog as they had to cut their way through.

No one has come forward to claim the dog, but he is now in the safe hands of the SPCA.

The SPCA’s Vicky Finnemore said it was a successful effort by everyone involved.
