DRIVER FLUNG FROM TRUCK IN FATAL ACCIDENT ON N1 IN JOHANNESBURG

A truck driver transporting scrap metal crashed into the centre barrier on the N1 north in Johannesburg on Thursday morning. He died on the scene.

The accident happened just before the Allendale off-ramp.

It seems as if the driver lost control of his truck just before the accident happened. News24 reports that the driver was flung from the truck and died from his injuries.

Another driver sustained minor injuries.

Several cars travelling in both directions were damaged due to the scrap metal load that started flying through the air with the impact of the truck hitting the barrier.

The accident caused a major back-up on one of South Africa's busiest highways, with all four lanes of the northern carriage way closed. Morning traffic was brought to a standstill with a long delay once some of the lanes were cleared of debris.

Watch the News24 video below to see the extent of the scrap metal lying all over the N1 north highway.
