DRIVER TAKES ONE LAST SIP BEFORE BEING ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING

Police officers in Cape Town were left stunned when they pulled over a man for driving under the influence.

During a routine roadblock on the corner of Saxdowne and Hindle roads, officers pulled over a car when they noticed that the driver had an open bottle of brandy between his legs.

When the officers approached the vehicle, the driver had the audacity to take one last sip of brandy before he engaged with them. While the officers were talking to the driver, they noticed that he was very unsteady and not able to stand up straight.

They arrested the 29-year-old on the spot for driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver, who was alone in his car, was taken to Mfuleni police station.

His attitude and obvious disregard of respect towards the officers left them shocked.

JP Smith, Mayco Member for Safety and Security, told IOL that this level of brazenness cannot be tolerated.

"I hope that the court takes his behaviour into consideration when deciding on a punishment. We continue to see too many people with a total disregard for the law which jeopardises public safety, and only harsh consequences from the courts for their actions will turn this tide."
