EIFFEL TOWER CLOSED AS EUROPE SUFFERS DUE TO HEAT WAVE

A heat wave is causing major havoc in Europe as hot air from the Mediterranean and Africa flows in.

In France, the summit of the Eiffel Tower was closed to tourists on Tuesday and Wednesday. A notice outside the famous landmark in Paris said: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused. During this period of high temperatures, please remember to protect yourselves from the sun and stay hydrated regularly.”

The Mediterranean marine heat wave has led to temperatures in Spain and Portugal being broken, as the temperatures keep climbing.

In El Granado, Spain, temperatures reached 46 degrees Celsius on Sunday, a new national record. Weather predictions have indicated that the heat wave will intensify on Wednesday, before temperatures start to drop on Thursday.

In the Portuguese town of Mora, a record-breaking 46.6 degrees Celsius was recorded. According to the country’s weather service, it was a new national record for June.

This is the United Kingdom’s second heat wave of the summer. On Monday, temperatures spiked to above 32 degrees Celsius. This caused very uncomfortable conditions for many, as the United Kingdom is known to have less than 5% of its population living without air conditioning.
