ANNA WINTOUR STEPS DOWN

Known as one of the world’s most brilliant fashion minds, Anna Wintour has announced that she’s stepping down.

For almost 40 years, Wintour was the editor-in-chief of American Vogue.

Wintour’s influence on not only the covers but also the contents of the magazine has been palpable. She’s known for reinventing the publication, and her fashion stamp will forever be remembered.

Her first cover for Vogue US featured Israeli model Michaela Bercu in a pair of stonewashed jeans, the first time a pair of jeans has appeared on the cover.

In 1992, she featured a man on the cover for the first time, breaking a century-old Vogue tradition. The cover featured actor Richard Gere alongside his wife at the time, model Cindy Crawford.

In her announcement to staffers, Wintour said that although she won’t be editor-in-chief for the American publication, she won’t be leaving publisher Conde Nast. Wintour said she’ll remain on Vogue’s global editorial director as well as Conde Nast’s global chief content officer.

A successor for Wintour hasn’t been announced yet.
