KRIEL TO CAPTAIN BOKS AGAINST BARBARIANS
Jesse Kriel has been announced as the captain of the Springboks when they take on the Barbarians.
The clash between the world champions and the Barbarian Football Club will take place on Saturday at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
A last-minute change forced coach Rassie Erasmus to let captain Siya Kolisi rest due to a suspected neck injury. Jesse Kriel has been chosen to take over the reins of the captaincy.
The game against the Barbarians, or the Baa-Baas, are they’re affectionately known, will kick off the tour for the second half of the year.
It will also be a good warmup for coach Rassie as he gives his new players a chance ahead of the Italian test series set to kick off the following weekend.
With the Barbarians on the way, many have asked who they are. According to Wikipedia, the Barbarian Football Club, known as the Barbarians, is a British-based invitational rugby union club. The Barbarians play in black and white hoops, though players wear socks from their own club strip. Membership is by invitation. As of 2011, players from 31 countries had played for them.
This will be the first time that the Barbarians play in South Africa.
