FATHER AND SON DOCTORS PASS AWAY DUE TO COVID-19

Carlos Francisco Vallejo, 57, and his father Dr Jorge A. Vallejo, 89, passed away after contracting the Covid-19 virus.

It is believed that Carlos has been infected by one of his patients which led to five other family members including his wife and father testing positive for the virus.

Both father and son were admitted to the hospital on 27 June, but unfortunately, the retired obstetrician and gynaecologist Jorge passed away only six days after being admitted to Palmetto General Hospital.

Dr. Carlos who was a board director passed away on 1 August, only 42 days after being in intensive care at the Cleveland Clinic Florida.

“We just lost basically both of our anchors of our whole entire family. In my eyes, my grandfather was the American Dream,” Jessica Vallejo, stated.

Dr. Carlos was known as a hero in his children’s eyes. “He really was a hero to so many people. I didn’t even want him to go to the nursing home and the hospitals because I was terrified,” said his 31-year-old daughter, Gisselle Vallejo.
“He wanted to be loyal. It was like he was available for them 24/7. He really was the true definition of a hero. I knew that when COVID started, that he was going to be a hero.”

Dr Jorge’s 23-year-old son Kevin stated that his father was his “role model”. “He was such a giving doctor that if his patients were going through a hard time… he would see them for free and tell them not to worry about it.”
“My dad was a great athlete … he actually turned down a [sports] scholarship to study medicine in the Dominican Republic,” said Dr Carlos’s 26-year-old son, Charlie.

Carlos’ wife who is also a psychiatrist, is hoping her sons follow in his footsteps.
Charlie stated that doctors put their life on the line every day to save their patients just like firefighters and will always remember their father and grandfather as heroes.
