FILMSPACE: IT’S LIKE AIRBNB FOR FILM SETS

Cape Town is known for its ideal film settings, and now a local company has made it even easier and more affordable to book space.

Filmspace is a website that’s very similar to AirBnB. It’s the ink between commercial production companies wanting affordable sets and a homeowner wanting an extra income.

If you’ve got a home, office space, farm, land, mobile asset or anything that you think a film crew might want to make use of, you can list it on Airspace. You will be registered as a host and crews can then book your place or mobile asset.

Mobile assets can include anything from sports cars to vintage cars, tractors to food carts and everything in between.

According to the National Film and Video Foundation, South Africa’s film industry is worth over R12.2 billion, with 89% of the market value reliant on production. It’s estimated that the sector employs 25,000 South Africans.

Filmspace is currently only available in Cape Town to ensure the international film crews currently filming or planning to film there soon will have access to the app. Business Insider reports that Johannesburg and Durban will soon be added to the app as available areas.
