A 40-year-old fitness trainer was shot dead while in the middle of a live Zoom training session.

It seems as if Lawrence Masinge’s attack and subsequent murder was part of a robbery. The incident took place on Wednesday night at around 19:20 in Saulsville, Pretoria.

Masinge’s death was witnessed by those who participated in his training session on Wednesday night as it happed live during a Zoom session.

News24 reports that the fitness coach was part of a programme to encourage exercise among the youth, endorsed by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

A manhunt for the suspects has been launched and was confirmed by police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.

“The motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage”, said Masondo.

“Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist apprehending the suspects to please call the nearest police station or crime stop on 08600 10111.”

Several of those who attended the training session via Zoom have expressed their shock and condolences on social media.
