FLOYD MAYWEATHER TO TAKE ON YOUTUBE BOXER LOGAN PAUL IN 2021
It has recently been announced that all boxing fans will see yet another "fight of a lifetime" as Floyd Mayweather will take on YouTube boxer, Logan Paul, in an exhibition fight in February 2021.
American boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather, has not fought in just under two years and still has a record of 50-0 undefeated matches. One of Mayweather's last matches was when he knocked out Conor McGregor in 2017 in another exhibition bout. Mayweather took part in a second exhibition fight since retirement from professional boxing against Japanese kickboxer, Tenshin Nasukawa, in Tokyo.
Mayweather has always been known for his talented boxing skills, and also his speed attacks. Mayweather won within one round against Tenshin during the New Year's Eve fight back in 2018. It is believed that the 43-year-old made £6.7million from that one round in the match in Japan which added to the £223million that he earned back in 2017 from the McGregor exhibition fight.
The American boxer, Paul, 25, fought fellow YouTuber, KSI, twice in the past three years. The first match resulted in a draw before the Briton claimed a rematch victory back in 2019.
Paul’s fights with KSI in 2018 and 2019 also sparked popularity as the influence of YouTuber boxing continues to grow in the boxing world. The first match between the two was an immediate hit. The match also became the largest non-professional boxing fight of all-time, reaching over 1.3million pay-per-views worldwide, a figure which included 800,000 live purchases. The second fight between the two, both boxers received an estimated $900,000 each, although the figures are believed to be higher for both KSI and Logan Paul.
There have been reported talks from both Mayweather and Logan over a fight for a while.
Recently, Mayweather had to shrug off several claims stating that he was also preparing to face a rematch with McGregor. Mayweather said; "I took it (the McGregor fight) serious, but I wanted to have some fun in the fight and I wanted to entertain the people. You have to give the people a show, so I gave the people a show. If I wanted to go out there and f*** him up and blaze him right out the gate, I could've did that. But my thing is this, if I would've did that, then it wouldn't be probably a part two."
Fans will be able to watch the match between Mayweather and Logan on Saturday 20 February 2021, and the bout will air via pay-per-view.
