GERMANY HOPES FOR TWO WINS IN A ROW
Currently in third place in their qualifying group, Germany hopes to win their next two qualifiers to keep their dreams alive of automatically advancing to the 2026 World Cup.
The top team from every World Cup qualifying group automatically advances, while the second-placed team will go into the playoffs.
Canada will co-host next year’s World Cup with the United States and Mexico.
In their qualifying group, Germany is third with Northern Ireland ahead of them in second place by only one point. Slovakia are top of the log with six points. Luxembourg completes this particular group with zero points.
In a statement, Germany’s coach, Julian Nagelsmann, said he has big dreams for the team.
"Two wins, that is our clear goal, in order to qualify for the World Cup in a direct way. Even if we are missing some players, our squad has enough quality to do it better than recently."
Due to injuries, the German team will be without Antonio Rüdiger and Jamal Musiala. Nagelsmann isn’t without a star-studded team as he’ll still have Aleksandar Pavlovic, Nick Woltemade and Maximilian Beier to choose from.
Germany will host Luxembourg on 10 October and then travel to Belfast three days later to play against Northern Ireland.
