BOATENG ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Former World Cup winner Jerome Boateng has announced his retirement from professional soccer. The announcement was made via a video posted by Boateng on his Instagram feed.
“I played for a long time, for big clubs, for my country. I learned, won, lost, and grown through it all.”
The 37-year-old is no stranger to achievements. During his successful career as a professional soccer player, Boateng made 76 appearances for the German national team between 2009 and 2018.
He had a good track record at Manchester City, and after joining the club in 2011, he spent 10 years as a defender at Bayern Munich. There, he helped his team to win nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.
Boateng also played for other clubs, including Olympique Lyonnais, Salernitana, LASK Linz and Hamburg SV.
“Football has given me a lot, but now it's time to move on. Not because I have to, but because I'm ready. I'm grateful for everything, for the teams, the fans, the people who carried me. And above all, my family, my children. They were always there."
His successful career has been overshadowed lately when the mother of his twin daughters accused him of domestic violence last year.
