TRUMP ADDRESSES CROWD AT CHARLIE KIRK MEMORIAL SERVICE

Both US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance addressed the crowd at the memorial held for Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, who was assassinated at an event held at a university in Utah earlier this month, was a conservative activist. As the CEO at Turning Point USA, Kirk was known to encourage debate around Christianity and was a Republican supporter.

During his speech, Trump said the assassination was an assault on all conservatives’ ideals.

“The gun was pointed at him, but the bullet was aimed at all of us. That bullet was aimed at every one of us.”

Trump said that Kirk was known for showing love towards everyone. “He did not hate his opponents. He wanted the best for them”. He diverted from his script, saying: “That’s where I disagreed with Charlie. I hate my opponent,” he said. “And I don’t want the best for them.”

Erika, Kirk’s wife, has been appointed as the CEO of Turning Point USA, the organisation he founded. She gave an emotional speech and said she forgives the man accused of killing her husband.

Trump called the accused a “radicalised, cold-blooded monster”.

South African-born billionaire Elon Musk famously had a falling out with his former friend, Trump. On the day of his memorial, Musk posted a photo of himself and Trump and captioned it: “For Charlie.”
