JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE SUSPENDED
ABC has made a decision, and it’s pretty controversial: Jimmy Kimmel Live! is taken off the air.
The network’s decision was based on the backlash the comedian has received after Kimmel’s remarks about Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, an American conservative activist, was assassinated earlier this month during an event at a university in Utah.
On Wednesday, ABC officially placed Jimmy Kimmel Live! on indefinite hiatus, saying it’s for the foreseeable future.”
This follows Kimmel’s monologue on Monday night in which he mentioned Kirk’s death.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterise this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” the late-night host said.
The show and the network were immediately hit with comments and threats.
The Guardian reports that MSNBC political commentator Chris Hayes called it the most “straightforward attack on free speech from state actors I’ve ever seen in my life”.
Dominic Monaghan took to social media to express himself. Alongside a photo of Kimmel and himself, the actor said: “I am appalled with his show being cancelled—First Stephen, now Jimmy. Control the media and what it puts out, and you control the people. Shocking.”
