BREVIS BREAKS SA20 RECORD
A 22-year-old cricketer was the centre point of a bidding war between the Pretoria Capitals, Paarl Royals, MI Cape Town and Joburg Super Kings.
South African batter Dewald Brevis has just become the most expensive player in the SA20 auction, which took place today.
There were 541 players up for auction with only 84 spaces available. A total of 25 places were available for overseas players.
After an intense bidding war, Brevis was bought by Pretoria Capitals for R16.5 million.
Previously, Tristan Stubbs was the most expensive player, but that record was broken early in the morning when Proteas all-rounder Aiden Markram was bought by the Durban Super Giants.
Pretoria Capitals also bought Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Quinton de Kock, along with English players Craig Overton and Saqib Mahmood.
The SA20 series, the fourth of its kind, will take place from 26 December 2025 until 26 January 2026. This would be the first time that the series takes place so early, but the T20 World Cup takes place in February and March.
