VERSTAPPEN RECORDS FASTEST LAP IN F1 HISTORY
Max Verstappen has managed to make history by clocking the fastest lap ever recorded in the history of F1.
The Dutchman finished a lap at Monza while preparing for this Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix.
His lap time of 1:18:792 not only managed to give him pole position ahead of Lando Norris, but it also managed to break Lewis Hamilton’s standing record set at Monza in 2020.
Oscar Piastri managed to get third position, followed by Charles Leclerc and Hamilton.
Verstappen seemed surprised by the pole position and the record-breaking lap.
"Around here with the low downforce, it's always very difficult to nail the lap," Verstappen said.
"Q3 felt good. Happy with the laps. The car has been working a lot better all weekend, and to be on pole, I'm very happy with that. For us, it's a great moment.”
Red Bull has struggled this season not only with getting podium finishes, but their team principal, Christian Horner, was fired mid-season.
"Historically, this season the race has been a little more complicated for us, but we will give it everything we have."
Norris acknowledged Verstappen always being ready to pounce.
"He's been quick all weekend. It's never a surprise with Max.
"The race is normally our strength, but to get past Max won't be easy.”
