CAKE COLOURING GUY OVERDOSES FOLLOWING CARTE BLANCHE EXPOSE
Andries Kemp was the focus of an exposé on Carte Blanche last week. In the days following the broadcast, the man from Mookophong tried to commit suicide.
In the Carte Blanche episode, Kemp’s company Rolkem was caught out for selling non-edible colour products to bakers who want to decorate their cups or cupcakes with glitter, gold and bright colours.
Former employees of Rolkem shared their stories on Carte Blanche. Johan Lourens told the investigative journalism TV programme, accusing the company of selling non-edible colouring:
“We were never allowed to write in our logbooks about the time it took us to fetch products or where we were, because colouring was bought from companies selling non-edible colouring, roof paint, dye for clothes and dye for plastic. They are not edible at all.”
Rolkem’s former general manager told Carte Blanche, “the brightly-coloured Lumo range was purchased from Delta Colours, which made its clients sign a form undertaking not to use the products in food”.
Kemp released a statement saying he is a victim of a “smear campaign by disgruntled former employees” and he has obtained interdicts against two women who previously worked for Rolkem.
