MENENDEZ BROTHERS DENIED PAROLE

Erik and Lyle Menendez have been denied parole. The two brothers have been in prison for the murder of their parents in 1989.

The decision to deny their parole was made in California on Friday after the pair appeared individually before a parole board.

During the hearings, which lasted two days, the brothers were each questioned by panels and asked to share their thoughts and feelings regarding the abuse they suffered as children.

CNN reports that the brothers were sentenced to life in prison in 1996 for fatally shooting Jose and Kitty Menendez. The case has long captivated true crime enthusiasts, with the brothers amassing public support in the past year after shows on Netflix renewed interest.

One of the series on Netflix highlighted the abuse the two brothers suffered and changed the opinions of viewers who found out for the first time that Jose was abusing them.

The question prosecutors asked over and over again during their trial was why the brothers killed their mother. A lack of human compassion was questioned.

Both brothers were denied parole, but they’ll be eligible to request an administrative review in one year. If the administrative review is granted, the pair could appear before the parole board again in 18 months.
