DRICUS STILL WINNING AT THE BANK

Even though he lost in the octagon, Dricus du Plessis is still winning financially.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter lost his middleweight world champion title to Khamzat Chimaev on Saturday, but still managed to reap the financial rewards.

Just for showing up on the day and stepping into the octagon, du Plessis received $3 million. That’s just over R52 million.

According to Livemint.com, the fee is made up of a base amount of $1 million because he was the reigning champion when he stepped into the octagon.

The rest of the amount was topped up through Pay-Per-View and promotional bonuses.

But if he beat his United Arab Emirates opponent, he would’ve walked away with an increase of $500,000, which amounts to about R8.8 million.

Du Plessis, or Still Knocks as he is known, has become a millionaire over the last few fights.

He received a cool $3.34 million for his first world champion title fight when he beat Sean Strickland, and then another $1.9 million when he defended his title against Israel Adesanya after that. In total, he made around R80 million just out of those two fights alone.

Sure, the tax man gets his share as well, but that payday means du Plessis is still winning at the bank.
