PRIVATE WELSH ISLAND FOR SALE
Thinking of getting away from it all? Wales might just have what you’re looking for.
An island called Thorne Island offers around 2.5 acres of private property with a fort built between 1852 and 1854, a helipad, a covered rooftop bar with a games room, and an office with a sea view.
The island used to serve as a barracks, but now the former fort, which was built to house 100 men, has been converted into a luxurious mansion with five bedrooms. The house can sleep up to 20 people.
Other areas include grand dining rooms and terraces, as well as a big courtyard with an al fresco dining area.
Before it was sold to the current owner, the fort was used as a hotel and a family home.
Of course, there’s a catch… The current owner is a British tech entrepreneur who will only accept offers in excess of R71,5 million.
Mike Conner bought the island in 2017 and tackled a major renovation project to have windows installed as well as flushing toilets.
The renovation project was no easy feat as it took Conner and his team 350 helicopter trips over two days to transport the materials, ranging from topsoil to heat pumps.
The renovation took four years, with builders living on-site during the time.
