TWO GERMAN STATES FIGHTING OVER BRATWURST

Even though they’re both in the same country, two German states are fighting over who invented the famous Bratwurst sausage.

Bavaria and Thuringia are both claiming to have invented the sausage, and it’s all because of a document discovered by historians.

Until now, modern history believes the Wurstkuch tavern in Bavaria is “the oldest Bratwurst stand in the world." The Wurstkuchl tavern is located on the Danube River, with proof that it’s the oldest cook or food stall since 1378.

Now, historians in Thuringia have discovered a document dated 1269 that mentions people who rented a building with a meat-roasting stand and a roasting pan. According to the documents, this took place 100 years before Bavaria's located sausage stand.

While some are increasingly bothered by the ordeal and the origin of the famous sausage, the Wurstkuchl people are anything but.

The restaurant’s landlady, Alexandra Meier, told a local TV station that she couldn’t care less.

“To be honest, it doesn't bother us at all."

Meier and her family think their restaurant is so popular because of the quality of their food, not because of the origin of the sausage.

"I don't think people will say, 'I'm not going there anymore because it's only the second oldest."

This isn’t the first Bratwurst row, and we don’t think it’s going to be the last…
