POST OFFICE SUSPENDS PARCEL SERVICES TO US
With immediate effect, the South African Post Office has announced the suspension of all outbound parcel services to the United States.
In a statement released by the Post Office, it said, “This decision follows new regulations introduced by the Trump administration on 30 July 2025, which remove the duty-free allowance for incoming international parcels.”
The statement explained that a new system is needed to dispatch parcels bound for the US.
“Postal operators around the world, including SAPO, are now required to collect and pay U.S. duties before parcels can be sent,” the SA Post Office explained.
“Until a new system is in place to manage this process, parcels cannot be dispatched.”
While the delivery of parcels is suspended, documents, letters, and exempt mail classes, such as military mail, are still accepted and dispatched.
The suspension of services means all the parcels already received at the Post Office’s Germiston International Mail Centre that can’t be processed will have to be returned to the senders.
“Given the complex processes required to comply with the new regulation, we have no choice but to temporarily suspend these shipments,” said SA Post Office joint business rescue practitioner, Anoosh Rooplal.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause to our customers.”
