DRIVE THROUGH LICENCE RENEWAL LAUNCHED IN SA
“Can I get a burger, a milkshake and a new licence disc, please?”
The City of Cape Town is the first city in South Africa to launch a vehicle licence renewal drive-through.
Currently, there are many ways to renew your licence disc, including the RTMC, specialist kiosks and private companies, as well as banking apps.
While the idea of renewing your licence almost anywhere isn’t new, this is the first time that motorists will be able to get their discs without leaving their cars.
“Our initial tests indicate that a renewal process in the drive-through could take a motorist less than five minutes to renew their disc if all paperwork is correct. Motorists who received a renewal notice via SMS need to simply show the SMS,” the City said in a statement.
The new facility is currently only available in Brackenfell, Cape Town, on the corner of Kruispad and Reservoir Roads.
For now, the facility only handles licence disc renewals, but the City says it might be able to offer more services in the future.
The licence disc renewal drive-through is part of the City of Cape Town’s initiative to make it easier for residents to book services for key municipal services like the vehicle disc renewal, municipal account payments and general enquiries or making account payment arrangements.
