CHARLIE KIRK SUSPECTED KILLER TURNED IN BY FATHER
A hunch from a dad led to the arrest of the suspect being held for the murder of Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, a prominent political activist, was killed on Wednesday at a gathering at Utah Valley University.
The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested on Thursday evening after his father turned him in.
Watching footage of the suspected killer on TV, Robinson’s dad suspected that it might be his son. He confronted him, and Robinson confessed to the murder.
While trying to persuade his son to turn himself in, Robinson’s dad was met with resistance. He ended up calling in help from a religious figure.
Local police arrested Robinson following a tip-off from a family member, instructed to do so by his father.
News of his arrest was announced by US President Donald Trump. He called for Robinson to face the death penalty.
Seconds before he answered a question asked by a member of the public at the event, Kirk was assassinated by Robinson. It’s believed Robinson was lying on a roof about 135 metres away from where Kirk was speaking.
Kirk’s wife, Erika, read out a statement on television on Friday, saying: “In a world filled with chaos, doubt and uncertainty, my husband's voice will remain.”
She addressed Robinson as well: “You have no idea the fire that you ignited within this wife; the cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry.”
