DE KOCK BACK FROM RETIREMENT
Former Proteas wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock has announced his comeback to international cricket.
The 32-year-old retired from all formats of the game in June 2024 and hasn’t played for the national team since then.
De Kock’s return is good news for South Africa as it prepares to compete at next year’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and India.
In 2027, South Africa will co-host the 50-over World Cup.
Proteas coach Shukri Conrad said De Kock’s return is a major boost for the team.
"When we spoke last month about his future, it was clear that he still has a strong ambition to represent his country. Everyone knows the quality he brings to the side, and having him back can only benefit the team."
So far, De Kock has only played in T20 leagues this year. He participated in the SA20 on home turf at the start of the year, followed by the Indian Premier League, Major League Cricket and the Caribbean Premier League.
Starting on 12 October, South Africa will play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20s in Pakistan. With captain Temba Bavuma injured, Aiden Markram will take the lead in his place.
