GHISLAINE MAXWELL'S CHANCES OF GETTING BAIL ARE SLIM
Ghislaine Maxwell, the 58-year old ex-girlfriend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, will hear today, via a video link from jail, whether she will be granted bail or not.
The socialite is currently being detained in jail in Brooklyn, New York, and faces up to 35 years in prison for her alleged involvement in billionaire Epstein’s trafficking in underaged girls during the 1990’s.
Epstein committed suicide in jail during August of 2019 while awaiting trial.
Her lawyers plan to argue that she be released on $5 million bail with electronic monitoring as she is unable to properly prepare for a trial because of COVID-19 restrictions, and that she faces a high risk of contracting the virus while in jail. They also feared that she will be the scapegoat for Epstein’s wrongdoing in which she has denied her involvement.
The prosecutors in the case have asked the judge to deny the bail application as Maxwell is deemed a flight risk. She has citizenship in France, the UK and the US with passports in her name for all three countries. As detailed in court papers filed on Monday, France “does not extradite its citizens to the United States pursuant to French law”.
The UK’s Prince Andrew has denied his alleged involvement with Epstein, Maxwell and the trafficking of underaged girls after photos of him appearing with Maxwell and an alleged victim of Epstein surfaced.
According to The Guardian, more victims of the deceased financier, Epstein, have come forward following Maxwell’s arrest. This includes women from the UK.
