GOODBYE, FISH PASTE

As if saying goodbye to some of our country’s most beloved brands like the Chocolate Log and All Gold flavour Simba chips last year wasn’t bad enough, we’re about to say goodbye to fish paste as well.

Whether you’ve always been torn between Pioneer Foods’ Redro and Peck’s Anchovette fish paste, you’ll soon be left without either one of these options.

Mandy Murphy, Category Manager of Foods at PepsiCo SSA told IOL that even though the decision was taken a long time ago the products might still be available to buy for some time.

“We made the decision to discontinue production of our Redro and Peck’s fish paste products towards the end of last year. This was part of our ongoing portfolio. We communicated this to our customers, stopped production, and discontinued the sale of related items in December 2021.”

“Products will therefore remain available for purchase by consumers as long as the retailers have stock on hand.”

While PepsiCo SSA has stopped the production of the two fish paste brands, a third party might step in to save the day.

Murphy confirmed that PepsiCo SSA is “in the process of finalising the sale of the related assets or brands to a third party”.

Let’s hope our beloved fish paste is back in production soon.
