GOOGLE TO BUILD $1 BILLION OFFICE IN LONDON

A new office building in London is a big bet, but tech giant Google is hoping it will lure its employees back to the workplace.

In a statement on Friday, the tech giant announced that it’s purchasing the Central Saint Giles development based in central London, which it already has a lease on.

Ronan Harris, vice-president of Google UK and Ireland disclosed in the statement that buying the development will allow Google to increase the number of employees from 6 400 to 10 000 in England alone.

The pandemic has changed the views of millions of employees around the world as they were forced to work from home, and Google employees are no different.

The majority of Google’s staff in the UK said they prefer the flexibility of working from home a few days per week, while others said they prefer to work fully remotely.

Google is hoping to entice its employees to come back to the office by adding quiet zones, lounge areas, team pods, and outdoor covered working spaces.
