GRAB AND GO WITH CHECKERS

The Shoprite group has done it again. With the Checkers sixty60 app being celebrated for its success, the group has now launched another game-changer in the retail market.

Checkers Rush features the concept of taking products from the shelf and then walking out. So no queues, no checkout and no waiting. It’s literally grab and go.

According to Neil Schreuder, Shoprite’s chief of strategy and innovation said the Checkers Rush store was one of his favourite pet projects.

“We use advanced AI and machine vision technology and cameras to identify which products and brand customers are taking from the shelf, and then we automatically bill your car.”

It works on the principle of a customer scanning their mobile phone before entering the store, then taking what they want from the shelves, before swiping their hand over a contactless sensor and walking out.

Checkers will then automatically deduct the amount from their bank account.

At the moment, the Checkers Rush store is only available at Shoprite’s impressive new digital business unit ShopriteX. It was officially launched on Wednesday.
