HAMBURG AIRPORT HOSTAGE DRAMA ENDS IN ARREST
A hostage drama at Hamburg Airport that lasted 18 hours, ended in an arrest on Sunday. The suspect exited the car in which he was holding his daughter hostage, without resistance.
When the child exited the car, she appeared unharmed.
The area’s busiest airport was closed due to the hostage situation. This affected more than 3,200 passengers.
At about 20:00 local time on Saturday, a man drove with his car through a security barrier and on to the tarmac. He fired two shots in the air before throwing two burning bottles out of the car.
The driver’s wife called police and said her daughter was abducted by the child’s father. Police said they believed “that a custody dispute is the background to this operation”.
On Sunday morning, a spokesperson for the police told local media that they’ve been in talks with the suspect.
“We have good contact with the perpetrator. That’s an absolutely good sign.”
The suspect eventually got out of his car and let his daughter out as well. She appeared to be unharmed and he allowed the police to arrest him without resistance.
