HOLLYWOOD RIPPER SENTENCED TO DEATH
It's the end of the road for Michael Gargiulo who was found guilty in 2019. Known as the Hollywood Ripper, Gargiulo was sentenced to death last week for killing and mutilating two women.
The incidents took place in Southern California in the early 2000s. Both women were attacked, killed and stabbed to death in their own homes.
The one victim was a mother of four and Gargiulo's neighbour. The now 45-year-old attacked his neighbour while she was sleeping and butchered her to death with a knife.
The other victim was 22-year-old Ashley Ellerin, who was found in her Hollywood home with 47 stab wounds in February 2001. On the night of her murder, Ellerin had been due to go on a date with actor Ashton Kutcher, reports News24.
Kutcher testified at the trial.
Besides the California murders, Gargiulo has also been accused of murder in Illinois. These charges date back to 1993.
With California state law currently having a moratorium on executions since 2019, Gargiulo will not be executed. The last execution happened in 2006 before it was stopped by a Californian court.
