INCREASED DISCOVERY LIFE PREMIUMS FOR ANTI-VAXXERS

Discovery Life members opposed to getting the Covid-19 vaccine might be hit with higher premiums.

This was announced on Thursday by Discovery Life CEO Riaan van Reenen.

"We want to reward our clients who have helped the country by getting vaccinated. Through our premium PayBack reward mechanism, we are offering all qualifying clients their maximum possible PayBack, given their selected PayBack option and Integrator type, for the first year of their new policy."

The life insurer's decision started with immediate effect and will only have an effect on new policies. Clients with life policies already in place won't be affected by this.

Van Reenen confirmed that, when applying for a new life policy with Discovery Life, clients will be asked upfront if they have already been vaccinated, or if they plan to get vaccinated as soon as circumstances allow. If they answer yes, they will get the offer.

Higher premium life insurance clients usually include smokers or those with lifestyle diseases like diabetes. Unvaccinated clients are now also added to that list.

Should a new unvaccinated client decide to get their vaccine later, their premium will be adjusted once fully vaccinated.
