IS TOM FORD'S RECYCLED WATCH ON YOUR CHRISTMAS WISH LIST?
A watch made out of 35
bottles worth of recycled plastic – could it be on your wish list this year?
Fashionista meets
conservationist so, of course, it’s not just any recycled watch.
American fashion
designer, Tom Ford, has created a wristwatch made out of 100% recycled plastic
found in the ocean. Yes, the watch is made from recycled material, but it’s
stylish and practical, just what you’d expect from the man’s famous designs.
The Rob Report reports
that every example of this Swiss-made model removes the equivalent of 35
bottles of plastic waste from the ocean, and comes housed in recyclable
packaging.
In a statement
released by the designer, he emphasised that sustainability is a key issue in
our lives right now.
“In particular, the
amount of ocean plastic that we are generating is perhaps taking the greatest
toll on our environment of all. For every 1,000 Ocean Plastic Timepieces we
produce and sell, we permanently remove and prevent 490 pounds of plastic waste
from entering the ocean.”
The matt black watch
is water-resistant and is only available to buy at Tom Ford boutiques around
the world, for around R15 096.
Well, for that price, it might have to stay on that wish list a little longer.
