KANYE WEST OFFICIALLY CHANGES NAME TO YE
It used to be a longtime nickname, but now it’s officially the name of the music mogul formerly known as Kanye West.
The 44-year-old filed the petition to change his name in August 2021 citing personal reasons. A Los Angeles judge approved the request on Monday granting him permission to use the name Ye as his legal name.
CBS News reports that the rapper, whose full name was Kanye Omari West, has long used Ye as a personal nickname. The name is also a part of many of his iconic brands, including his Yeezy shoes. In 2018m he also named his eighth studio album Ye.
Earlier this year, Ye’s wife Kim Kardashian filed for divorce. During the proceedings, it became known that the couple, who share four kids together, have been living apart for some time.
In August, just after filing the petition to have his name legally changed, Ye released his tenth studio album titled Donda, named after his late mother.
It debuted at the top of Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart, making him only the seventh artist to have 10 number 1 albums, according to Billboard.
