LAMINE YAMAL REWRITES CHAMPIONS LEAGUE HISTORY AT JUST 18
Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has once again blown the football world away, smashing records and redefining what’s possible for a young player in the UEFA Champions League.
Still only 18, Yamal has added yet another historic milestone to an already dazzling career – breaking the record for most goal involvements by a player aged 18 or younger in Champions League history, previously held by French superstar Kylian Mbappé.
In Barcelona’s 2–1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, Yamal set up Jules Koundé’s match-winning goal, taking his tally to 14 goal contributions (seven goals, seven assists). That’s the highest total ever recorded by anyone under 19 in the competition, a remarkable achievement for someone who’s still got years ahead to build on it.
But this latest feat is just the tip of the iceberg. Yamal has been breaking age-related records since bursting onto the scene as an astonishingly young talent.
He’s already Barcelona’s youngest ever Champions League starter and appearance maker before age 19, surpassing Warren Zaïre-Emery’s total of 23 UCL games.
Earlier in his Champions League journey, at just 17, he became the youngest player to score in a UCL semifinal, overtaking Mbappé’s mark from 2017.
Yamal’s impact isn’t limited to goals and assists either. In March, he became the youngest player ever to both score and assist in a single Champions League match, helping Barcelona to a convincing win over Benfica and further solidifying his status as one of the brightest stars in world football.
